As a young business students, many dream of coming up with the next big idea to get rich. This idea is known to many as a "venture". A "venture" is an idea that you come up with that you could offer to make society better. There are so many possible ventures, as long as you put your mind on the paper and stick to it. As a highschool student, theres only so much that we could offer to society with a lack of experience and low income.
The first venture idea that I came up with was to offer tutoring lessons to younger elementary school students. The homework is relatively easy so there is a lower margin of error. Although the younger grades of secondary school is also a possibility. In my opinion, I think that it would be better off for me to teach younger students as I am still being educated in school. As I am good at things like Social Studies and English, I could go around dropping off small sheets of paper advertising in the neighborhood mail boxes and sticking some advertisements on lamp poles about English and Social Studies lessons. Another idea of advertising would be to ask for permission to leave flyers in neighborhood restaurants and markets. I could offer to meet up and tutor at these small neighborhood restaurants or have the choice of making house calls. Many parents nowadays know the importance of a good education and would pay to better improve their kids.
My second venture idea is to offer infant babysitting. As the oldest of two kids, I have had the ability of helping my parents watch my younger sibling. As long as the baby's old enough to be babysat, I would be able to handle him/her with care. Many would find it hard to trust someone that you rarely know to take care of their newborn. My advertising would start somewhere close to home. These people that I could offer babysitting to include neighbors, close friends and people that you have close contact with. There really is no point of advertising to a random target market as people worry about this matter greatly.
These two venture idea's have been offered around for many years and counting. The good thing about these ventures is that as a young high school student, you would be able to earn a bit of money while studying. The first venture idea would be a harder feat because there could be problems that arise with certain homework assignments. The later, should be fine most of the time hence the baby is not ill or scared. These two venture ideas will always be successful because almost everyone with kids need this service. One growing concern is the drop in birthrates and the lack of children being born, but does that really matter much to a high school student looking to earn some extra spending money?
I really like the idea of tutoring younger kids because it's different from other ideas I've read so far. Also you would be quite successful in helping elementary students with their assignments since it's very simple to do. It will be easier for you to tutor them if you have any younger siblings that knows friends that need help.
ReplyDeleteBabysitting is always a good idea to start. Doesn't require much advertising since you mainly start with babysitting someone you're familiar with. Also, babysitting doesn't require a high start up cost if you have equipments from your younger sibling like toys, etc. I think it'll be a successful business.

Your idea for tutoring younger kids is a pretty good idea. Since you are tutoring elementary students, the homework and assignments would not be hard at all! This would ensure them a good mark in class and also a successful learning experience.
ReplyDeleteBabysitting is a good idea. The start up cost for this may be a bit high because you may not have any of the equipment required such as bottles, baby formula, toys, crib, and etc. Perhaps it is also a bad idea because you are under aged so some parents may not trust you with their infants. It would be good if you had a first aid certificate as well to show that you are capable of handling unfortunate situations.
Tutoring is a really great idea, in my opinion. It's not time consuming (few hours a week max?) and there are minimal to zero start up costs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about baby sitting and how people might not trust someone they don't know with their kids. However, with word and mouth and other types of communication, you can easily get the word out and establish yourself as a known babysitter which will create trust that families need when finding a baby sitter.
I don't think your tutoring younger kids like elementary school students is a good idea because who's to say that they are going to trust you with your secondary school knowledge?
ReplyDeleteand as of the baby sitting idea, as long as you are responsible and caring, everyone should be able to trust you after once or twice of your service, therefore, making it a go. good job!
I think the idea of tutoring elementary kids is a good idea because the work load isn't that hard and you should be capable of doing a good job tutoring younger kids. Also, since you have a younger sister you seem to have the patience to tutor younger kids.
ReplyDeleteThe baby sitting idea was very well thought out and I think this service that you're going to provide is a very good idea. You are friendly to kids, infants, etc and I think you will do a good job baby sitting.
Tutoring elementary kids could be a great business as many parents will want their children to develop good studying/learning habits early, and what better way than to have a tutor teach? It would not be a difficult business to start up, as sometimes there are school announcements of elementary parents who are looking for a tutor. This also shows that there is a market out there and if you are willing to put away some time it can be very rewarding.
ReplyDeleteBeing a babysitter is a great skill and with experiences of having siblings, you will definitely have an advantage with working with kids over someone who may be an only child. Living with younger siblings can teach you alot so knowing what to do is not a problem.
I think tutoring elementary kids is a good idea because I don’t think they offer homework club there. There are also lots of parents looking for a tutor for their kids but the only problem is that how do you let them trust you. This is a good way to make profit because you don’t really need to use much money to start this business.
ReplyDeleteFor your second venture idea, I think it will also be a good idea because you already have babysitting experiences. Since you are planning to offer to neighbors and close friends first, they probably will know that you are responsible and they are most likely to trust you with this job.

All I have to say is to look out for your competitors, which are tutoring companies and babysitting facilities.
ReplyDeleteDepending on how much you charge for tutor lessons because there's homework clubs at schools which does not cost any money.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of babysitting is very clever. Especially starting off babysitting for someone you know. They can help you spread a word which you won't need to spend on advertisement. One thing you have to think about is, if you're willing to change the baby's diaper.
YOUR IDEA SEEMS APPEALING TO MANY STUDENTS IN OUR SCHOOL BECAUSE TUTORING CAN HELP EVERYBODY AND ANYWAY. THIS IDEA IS PROFITABLE BECAUSE OF THE HIGH CONSUMER BASE AND LOW START UP COSTS. I CAN SEE THAT THIS IDEA WILL GO FAR IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE IT IS VERY GOOD. SOME PROBLEMS THAT MAY ARISE ARE PEOPLE NOT WANTING TO GET TUTORED ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY MOST LIKELY WILL FEEL THAT IT IS WASTING THEIR TIME.
ReplyDeleteTHE SECOND VENTURE IDEA OF BABYSITTING IS BRILLIANT BECAUSE PEOPLE AROUND THIS NEIGHBORHOOD TEND TO BE VERY BUSY AND CANNOT TAKE CARE OF THEIR CHILDREN ALSO THERE IS A LACK OF AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS. THIS IDEA IS PROFITABLE IN MANY ASPECTS. BUT SOME PROBLEMS THAT MAY ARISE ARE ADULTS MAY NOT TRUST YOU WITH THEIR LITTLE CHILDREN.
-oops I didn't see that caps was on sorry.
Just be aware that there's alot of competition within these two ventures, tutoring has lots of alternatives and babysitting also has lots of alternatives. However if you can get it off the ground, it's a venture worth putting some effort into.

for the idea of your tutor lesson, i think it is going to be hard for you because parents usually would want their children to get tutor from an university student and not secondary school student. Also, there's not really a lot of things that can be hard for students in elementary school.
ReplyDeleteBabysitting is same as your tutor idea. Parents tend to trust Daycare center more, although their prices might be more expensive, it is safer, at least to the phsycological side of the parents. Therefore, i think it is hard for you to start a business like that and actually make money.
I think you have a good idea and would carry on well with it because you already know where you stand as a tutor and what you can teach. I was just wondering that since you’ll be teaching younger grades if you might want to do group tutoring. So that kids who do need help can go with friends and won’t feel belittled going to a high school student who supposedly “knows everything”. Some kids might be a little frightened with the fact that tutoring is usually one on one. Also, the material of elementary kids is lighter and much more manageable for you to teach, even for a small group of kids.
ReplyDeleteOn your second venture idea, I think baby-sitting would fit you well as you have mentioned that you do have younger siblings to look after. You could baby-sit kids at the same time (if you can handle) so they have friends to be with and not be too scared. Maybe like a really small daycare type thing even.
Overall, I think these venture ideas are, although very common, very suitable for you Matthew. Good luck on your venture! :)
I don’t think offering tutoring lessons to younger elementary school student is a good idea. First of all, how would they know you aren’t a kidnapper? Second of all, how can they trust you with your knowledge and not teaching them the wrong information? You can gain their trust by maybe photocopying a copy of your report card. That can definitely help.
ReplyDeleteI really like your second idea. Many parents out there are busy working, leaving their children at home. This service can help decrease their stress. As your friend, I think you can manage this service quite well because you have experience in taking care of younger children.
I find both your venture ideas extremely appealing!
ReplyDeleteProviding tutoring lessons to elementary students at an economical rate would be an excellent relief for parents along with the students themselves, and also it would be an outstanding technique to gain profit for your business. Your second idea of babysitting service has also a lot of potential. If you just advertise on a large scale; which ever business idea you decide to pursue, will be extremely successful!
Tutoring lessons is an excellent idea but how would you suffice due to parents looking for specific tutors like ones with actual certification or a degree?
ReplyDeleteSame goes for babysitting services. Parents would want to look for people who have a certificate of daycaring. So overall good ideas but would you really go that far because you want to start a small business right away.
